Reducing the Risk of Macular & Prostate Cancers
Lycopene gives tomatoes, pink grapefruit, etc, their red colour and its concentration in the body tends to be higher than all other Carotenoids, particularly in the liver, lungs, prostate gland, colon and skin.
Ongoing research suggests it is associated with reduced risk of macular disease, serum lipid oxidation and cancers of the lung, bladder, cervix and skin.
A six year study by Harvard Medical School on 47,000 men showed a measurable relationship to reduced prostate cancer risk. As consumption of tomato products increased, the risk for prostate cancer decreased by 34% by those who had ten or more servings daily of Lycopene containing foods.
Another study of men who had the highest amount of Lycopene in their body fat, showed they were half as likely to suffer a heart attack as those with the least amount in their body fat.
For protection against many cancers Lycopene is a must.
